Menstrual Health Program – Empowering Girls with Knowledge

Share

Menstruation is a natural part of a woman’s reproductive cycle. However in many parts of the world, including Nepal, it is still considered “dirty” or “impure”, with girls and women unable to participate in religious ceremonies or touch male family members while menstruating. These social taboos, along with a lack of access to hygiene products and inadequate school facilities (i.e. separate girls bathrooms with dust bins and water), mean that approximately 30% of girls in Nepal miss school each month during their periods.

Shenpen Health has recently initiated a Menstrual Health Program to educate students about hygiene and distribute reusable cotton menstruation pads. We are optimistic that the program will change some of the negative cultural beliefs about menstruation in Nepal. Recognizing how menstruation affects girl’s ability to get an education we are also actively engaging with these girls, promoting positive messages about female-specific issues.

You can help improve the quality of life of these girls by providing them training and basic eco-friendly Dignity Kits. Here are some options:

  • Offer a Dignity Kit to a girl
  • Offer a Dignity Kit and train 30 students
  • Offer a Dignity Kit and train students from Grade 6 to 10 in a school

With your donation, Shenpen will be able to reach out to many more girls.
