Dashain is the longest and the most auspicious festival in the Nepalese annual calendar, celebrated by Nepalese of all caste and creed throughout the country.

In preparation for Dashain every home is cleansed and beautifully decorated, painted as an invitation to the mother goddess, so that she may visit and bless the house with good fortune. The market is filled with shoppers seeking new clothing, gifts, luxuries and enormous supplies of temple offering for the gods, as well as foodstuffs for the family feasting.

In this occasion on Friday 11th October 2013 we distribute Dashain clothes to the 22 street children of Boudha and Pashupati, out of them 14 were from Boudha and 8 were from Pashupati area.  The program was conducted by Volunteer Foundation Nepal, Empower 1, and WEGAIN in collaboration with Shenpen Nepal and the whole project was supported by C.H.A.N.C.E for Nepal U.K.

We gave jeans, shirts, shoes and much more. It was such a happy moment to see those children wearing new clothes provided by us. We also provide them snacks which include cold drinks and mo: mo’s their favorite food. After receiving the clothes, children from Boudha told me that, after a long time, they were able to wear new clothes on Dashain festival. It was really a great experience to see smile on those kids.

One of the boy says ‘I want to eat pizza, wear new dress, see a movie and want to make lot of money’….just like all kids they have a wish for a better life for themselves.
