Rangjung Yeshe Shenpen organized a two day dental camp at Mata Tirtha Old Age Home for the 23 elderly mothers living at the home.  The clinic was led by Dinesh Pyakurel(a well known dentist) along with his medical team Rusha Mahat and others.

On the first day of the camp, the dental team performed preliminary tests to identify problems such as gingivitis which affects the gums, broken teeth, tooth pain and other ailments. During the day, they discovered that 2 of the patients needed dental extraction and several others needed partial dentures, scaling, and Root canal treatment.

During the second day, the team was there around 10 a.m. for the treatment of the elderly mothers. First, they took the blood pressure and sugar level to check whether the problem identified on the previous day can be fixed or not. Unfortunately three of the ladies had to postpone getting their teeth fixed due to the high blood pressure.

After the medical camp, Dr. Dinesh said that “Keeping your mouth healthy and functional is very important if you want to live longer, healthier and happier. You may eat with your eyes first, but your mouth, teeth, and gums are more than just tools for eating. They’re essential for chewing and swallowing—the first steps in the digestion process. Your mouth is your body’s initial point of contact with the nutrients you consume.”

Improving knowledge on oral health is part of the course of treatment for the women at Mata Tirtha.“Visit your dentist regularly to ensure that your mouth is disease free,” said Dr. Dinesh.
