Rangjung Yeshe Shenpen, founded by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche in the year 2004 with an aim of helping poor, needy and suffering people, visited Mata Tirtha Old Age Home on 17th Dec 2019. Mélanie Létourneau, along with Lopon Urgen Dorje and Bimala Ghising, offered on behalf of generous Malaysian donors rice, lentils (dal) and medicines and donated one lakh eight thousand rupees to cover the expenses of a hot meal for each resident daily.
Since 2014, Shenpen has been offering 18 thousand rupees each month, which covers each day lunch cost. At the present 24 old women above 60 years are living in Matatirtha Oldage Home.
They are receiving four meals a day and free medical checkups from Nepal medical college which is located at Attarkhel of Jorpati.
Surya Maya is 74 years old and she is from Sindihupalchok. She is living in Matatirtha Oldage Home since one year. She said she has a son, daughter, and grandchildren. One of her grandson is a headmaster of a Boarding School in the village. With a broken heart she said, ‘I felt I was burden to my son and his family, so I left home’. It was heart breaking to see these old women living in an old age home instead living under the care and love of their families.

Everyone calls me here Kanchi Maya but outsider calls me Kanchi Ama.
Think of our mother love and care which they gave us when we were young, and learn to give them the same when they are old as they need us the most. Is it to much to ask for?
